Role-play and costumes mean adopting characters or scenarios together to explore fantasy and playfulness — a low-stakes, imaginative way to step outside your everyday selves.
The gist
Playing characters — a scenario, an outfit, a persona — gives you permission to be someone a little different and to voice desires that feel easier in costume. It ranges from a simple outfit to a full scene, and the only real rules are that you both opt in, keep a way to step out, and don't take the giggles too seriously.
Step by step
Brainstorm scenarios or characters you're both curious to try.
Agree on the loose 'plot' and a word that drops you out of character.
Dress the part as much or as little as you like, and commit to it.
Afterward, talk about what worked and what you'd tweak.
Tips
- Start with a light, familiar scenario — you can always get more elaborate later.
- Laughing is fine; agree on a quick out-of-character word if you need to reset.
