The Table Top

Also known as counterdeskraised surfacekitchen counter

The Table Top has the receiving partner sit or lie back on a hip-height surface — a table, desk, or counter — while the other stands, using furniture to solve height and angle.

The gist

When the bed's angle isn't right, furniture can be: a sturdy hip-height surface lets the receiving partner sit or recline at exactly the standing partner's level, no straining required. It's spontaneous, ergonomic, and turns an ordinary room into a change of scene.

Step by step

  1. The receiving partner sits or lies back on a stable, hip-height surface.

  2. The other stands close, meeting the height.

  3. Support the receiving partner's legs on shoulders, around the waist, or on the surface.

  4. Add a folded towel under them for cushioning and grip.

Tips

  • Test that the surface is solid and won't slide before putting weight on it.
  • A towel or blanket adds comfort and keeps things from getting slippery.
